Discovering the Parrotts - My Nanna Copper's Family
Parrott originally derived for the French name Pierre and was a diminutive of the name Parrot, which means little Peter. The name came to England in the 11th century wave of migration that was set off by the Norman conquest of 1066.
Once again my Aunty Dot's list of 3 brothers and 4 sisters for Nanna Cooper came in handy, as a guide, while searching among the records - Bob, Jack, Nell, Dorothy, Amy, Ted, & Maud - keep in mind, I had no knowledge of these people, nor was able to ask anyone. Incidentally, I remember being told that Nanna used to write to her family back in England.....oh, just to have those letters.....so here is what I dug up. Eight births to John Joseph Parrott and Emma Hannah McNaughton. They were married in 1873

I have 3 addresses that this family lived at, from the census records - 3 Clifton Cottages, Edmonton, Middlesex; 13 Linton Terrace, Edmonton, Middlesex; 21 'The Cresent' Hurtford Road, Edmonton, Middlesex. The pin on the map below is the approximate position of these addresses where this family grew-up in London England.
John Joseph Parrott was a Warehouseman in 1881 according to the census and 10 years later in the 1891 census he had changed his occupation to a Collector Salesman. Finding that a little too stressful for his health he settled for a Factory Time Keeper in the last few years of his life and died in 1904 at 54 years. Emma his wife was 2 years older than John and she out-lived him by 24 years and died at age 79 years in 1928.
I haven't been able to find any Church records - Marriage Banns or Baptismal/Christening recordings for this family, but I remember my Nanna Cooper as a staunch Church of England believer.
